Academic walk
Stepping into the history and present of academic Turku
What Per Brahe the Younger actually thought of the people in Turku? With what Alexander I of Russia fell in love on his visit in Turku in 1809? How does Klondike gold relate to the current location of the university?
Academic walk is a unique opportunity to experience the entire and colourful history of academic Turku. A guided tour leads the walker from the side of the Turku Cathedral all the way to the heart of the modern campus. During the walk we wander from amidst the legacy of Mikael Agricola, the founder of Finnish written language, to the university hill, to where the new university was built as a free nation’s gift to free science.
Academic walks are arranged every week all through the summer both by reservation and at fixed times mentioned below – rain or shine!
