Academic walk

Stepping into the history and present of the academic Turku

What did Per Brahe the Younger actually think of the people in Turku? With what did Alexander I of Russia fall in love on his visit in Turku in 1809? How does the Klondike gold relate to the current location of the university?

The Academic Walk is a unique opportunity to experience the entire and colourful history of the academic Turku. The guided tour leads the walker from the side of the Turku Cathedral all the way to the heart of the modern campus. During the walk we wander from amidst the legacy of Mikael Agricola, the founder of Finnish written language, to the university hill, on which the new university was built as a "free nation’s gift to free science".

Academic Walks are arranged every week through all the summer both by reservation and at fixed times mentioned below – rain or sunshine!
